18/9/18: We played our first Quizlet Live games today. Lively!!! By way of reminder, you will no longer create your own Quizlet sets for vocabulary (unless you want to). I'll create them and I'll share them on Google Classroom too. You'll be given 20 points credit for using Quizlet and Google classroom to study the material.
You still have to write the entries in your copybook, though. You earn 20 points for that as well.
11/9/18: ¡Bienvenidos a todos! Welcome back, everyone. It's good to see all of you again. It's your last year at SPN and the year will fly by. There are many, many exciting events and adventures coming your way. Make the most of them.
I've had a chance to speak with all of you regarding the changes to the Spanish program. We'll meet twice a week rather than three times a week, and the grading scale has changed too. But we'll continue to forge ahead making sure to make the most of our classes and learning lots of Spanish as we do.
Homework and tests remain. Our first test will be on September 25 on the review material we worked on today and will continue the next three classes. New students in 82 are exempt from taking this test, however, the vocabulary for 6A should be in your copybook by 9/17.
27/4/18: Reminder that the test for 9a has been moved to Monday, 4/30 for both groups.
23/4/18: Test on chapter 9a vocab is this week o 4/26. You're out on 4/25 so be sure to have your vocab with you, or better yet, use Quizlet! An "A" on this test affords you some free time in May.
13/3/18: Quizzle on indirect object pronouns for both classes. Dates: 3/19 for both.
7/3/18: Chapter 8b vocab test is scheduled for 3/27.
12/2/12: Please review preterite endings for -ar, -er and -ir verbs as well as preterite forms for ser/ir, dar and hacer. They can be found in the back of the text if you don't have them in your cb. Quiz on these verbs 2/22 for both 81 and 82.
9/1/18: Change of plans on vocab test again. The first part of the test is rescheduled for this Thursday, but it will not have sentences, just the first column of vocab on page 396. The date for part 2 is the same: 1/18/18 and includes the second column including all verbs in the preterite.
18/12/17: Change of plans on vocab test. I'm going to split the chapter as there is so much vocab in this unit. First part of the test will be January 8, 2018 for both classes and it will cover the first column of vocabulary and the sentences from the workbook. The second part of the test will be January 18, 2018 for both classes and will cover the second column of vocab and the pretérite forms of er/ir verbs as well as the pretérito of the verb ir (to go).
5/12/17: Plan on a vocab test for both classes on chapter 8A on 12/18.
17/11/17: Date for vocab test on chapter 8a has not been set but it will be before Christmas break so you should be studying.
23/10/17: You should be using Quizlet at home. A lot!
16/10/17: Testo on c. 7b vocab is scheduled for 11/9 for both classes. If you did not finish Quizlet 7b or copybook 7b today in class, you must finish it for homework. Both are due this Thursday for both classes.
10/10/17: TEST for 82 IS MOVED FROM 10/12 to 10/11 DUE to 10 am MASS on Thursday!!!!!!! Also, reminder to bring your text and copybook with you to class on exam day. We start the next chapter (7b) immediately after the test.
2/10/17: You should be using Quizlet regularly to help you master vocab for chapter 7a. The test is next week on 10/12 for both groups. Reminder that there's a change in policy this year for middle school students. If you forget any books, workbooks, notebooks, etc, you will not be allowed to go back to your homeroom to get them. Having your text, workbook and copybook is essential to mastering the material for any unit. Please help one another remember to bring your class materials with you.
Some of the Rosary posters are up and look very nice. More will be put up on the main floor and the lower floor this week. Mr. Lathroum will help you to print more during your tech classes this week.
21/9/17: Testo on c. 7a vocab is scheduled for 10/12 for both groups. Next assessment is on the stem-changing verbs querer, preferir and pensar. Assessment will be some time next week.
12/9/17: Welcome back everyone. Please check this site once a week in case there are updates. We're starting the Rosary project later this week. Remember to be thinking about design to go with the written prayer. We'll be using Chromies and will spend at least one day in the Tech lab.
Also, you're going to need a pair of earbuds or headphones as listening activities are a big part of what we'll be doing this year when using Chromies or iPads.
Bring your old and new copybooks.

10/5/17: The final test for both classes has been moved to 5/18. All grades for 8th have to be in on 5/22 so I have to move the test forward. We've been working on this for awhile though. We'll be doing a thorough review tomorrow and the two classes next week.
25/4/17: Both classes have a vocab test on chapter 7b scheduled for 5/22.
8/3/17: Test on vocab for chapter 7a is scheduled for 4/6/17 for both classes. Vocab can be found on page 342.
15/2/17: Please make sure to send me corrections to the Google slide show for Spain. You can make the changes on any computer you're comfortable with (laptop, pc, Mac, iPad, Chromebook). If your group has already presented make sure you get me the corrected version by this weekend.
Test date change: 6b vocab test has been moved back a week. (Test will now be on 2/28 for 81 and 3/1 for 82). Keep studying!
2/2/17: Spain Field Trip presentations start Monday. We'll be using the iPads and Apple TV to present. Make sure you have corrected any spelling, punctuation and/or grammar errors in both languages. You should be double checking your Google slides this weekend to make sure everything is in good order. Be sure to know why you've included a slide so you can elaborate if needed to the audience (your classmates).
1/2/17: Chapter test on 6b is scheduled for 2/23 for both groups. Also be thinking about your final project. Talk with your partner regularly. You'll have some class time to work on it but it will require additional work outside of school: homework!
9/1/17: Chapter test on 6a is scheduled for 1/24 for 81 and 1/25 for 82.
19/12/16: Test on chapter 6a will be the week of January23-27, 2017. Make sure to look at your Quizlet set often, and practice translating random sentences from chapter 5b.
21/11/16: All revised translations should be to me before you leave for Thanksgiving holiday! Don't forget your Quizlet set for chapter 5b. Test date for 5b is 12/15/16 for both groups.
11/11/16: All 8th grade classes are required to set up a personal Quizlet set for chapter 5b. Please name the set "Realidades 1, c5b."
8/11/16: Reminder that vocab test on 5a is this Thursday! Bring your printed translation to class with you on Monday. We're going to swap our translations with a partner in order to edit.
31/10/16: Translations for p. 185 must be completed this week. We'll use Chromebooks to type the translations.

29/9/16: Quiz on preterite verb forms Tuesday, 10/4 for 81 and Wednesday, 10/5 for 82. Make sure you know the meanings of the verbs of the handouts you got in class.
Books should be covered! If you have a new copybook, make sure the Padre Nuestro, the Ave María, the Credo, the Juramento and the Pater Noster are included. Copy them from your old copybook or get them from a friend.
4/18/16: Stem-changing verb test for 82 tomorrow, 4/19.
3/8/16: 82 narratives are due next Tuesday, 3/15. They must be typed (font size 12) and double-spaced. Remember to follow your notes when writing your narrative. Pay attention to use of estar and ser; make sure your adjectives and nouns agree in gender and number. Your subjects and verbs must agree in person and number as well, i.e, if you have a plural subject your verb should have a plural ending, not singular. You are talking about things so you'll use 3rd person endings only.
2/12/16: Blueprint and oral presentation are due on Wednesday, 2/17 for 81 and Thursday, 2/18 for 82.
2/2/16: Test for chapter 6b is on 2/23 for 82 and o 2/25 for 81.

9/28/15: Reminder that the test on 5A vocab is this week. Typed narrative for oral presentation is due this week. Actual presentations begin this Friday (10/2/15) and continue through next week until everyone has completed his/her presentation.
9/21/15: Chart for oral presentation was due last week. I gave a weekend extension. If you don't turn it in tomorrow, you won't receive credit for it. Remember to think about favorite places and foods for family members.

5/5/15: Quiz on the preterite verb forms for the verbs hacer, querer and venir will be on 5/12/15. Quiz on preterite verb forms for the verbs estar, andar and tener will be on 5/15/15. Final vocab test for chapter 13 will be on 5/19/15 (moved from 5/12/15).
4/30/15: Final test for grade 8 will be on 5/12, vocab for chapter 13. There may be a quiz after that.
4/15/15: 81 has a translation quiz this Friday. Vocabulary used will be from unit 12. 82 has a quiz on reflexive verbs and -ar/-er/-ir verb endings either this Friday or next Monday. Chapter vocab test is scheduled for 4/21 for 81 and 4/24 for 82. Vocab test will not include reflexive verbs as we have tested for these separately.
3/30/15: Quiz tomorrow on the five stem-changing reflexive verbs: acostarse--to go to bed; divertirse--to enjoy oneself; despertarse--to wake up; sentarse--to sit down; and dormirse--to go to sleep. The verb paradigm is on page 386 in your text if you need to review. You must conjugate and translate these five verbs for the quiz.
3/23/15: Quiz on reflexive verbs Friday, 3/27/15. You must know what they mean. Verbs are on p. 401 in your text:
despertarse--to wake up; levantarse--to get up; lavarse--to wash oneself; bañarse--to bathe oneself; afeitarse--to shave oneself; ponerse la ropa--to dress oneself; mirarse--to look at oneself; maquillarse--to put on makeup; cepillarse--to brush one's (hair, teeth etc); peinarse--to comb one's (hair): sentarse--to sit down; desayunarse--to have breakfast; acostarse--to go to bed; dormirse--to go to sleep; llamarse--to call oneself; divertirse--to enjoy oneself.
2/25/15: Reminder that test for c. 11 is scheduled for 3/2/15, not 3/3/15. We're closed on 3/3 due to professional day. Use Quizlet if that helps you. In your search type: Quizlet Buen Viaje 1 chapter 11. That will bring up the flash cards and you can play Scatter if you find it helpful.
2/9/15: Quizzle on -go verbs (hacer--to do, to make; poner--to put/place; traer--to bring; salir--to leave/go out) tomorrow 2/10/15 for both classes. Remember the verbs are irregular in the yo form, the 1st person, singular, present-tense form. (hago, pongo, traigo, salgo). After that, they conjugate according to the pattern for their verb group (-er or -ir verb endings).
2/4/15: Vocab test for chapter 11 is scheduled for 3/3/15 for both classes. Chapter 11 vocabulary causes problems at times for students who normally do quite well on vocab tests. Make sure to study the words and phrases carefully. Isolate the ones that give you trouble and focus on those.
1/29/15: The c. 10 vocab test will be held on 2/2/15 for those of you who haven't taken it.
1/20/15: Chapter 10 vocab test will be this Friday, 1/23/15 for both classes.
1/7/15: Be sure to complete your chapter 10 vocab by this Friday if you haven't finished it yet.
1/5/15: Test for chapter 10 vocab is scheduled for 1/27/15 for both classes. The date may be moved to the week before if a school event is scheduled during your class time on 1/27/15.
12/9/14: Vocab for chapter 9 is moved to 12/16 for both classes.
11/18/14: Quiz this Friday or next Monday on the sentences on pp 274-275. If you did not finish translating them today in class, you must complete it for homework. Remember that most of the verbs are in the preterite tense (past tense).
11/5/14: Test on c. 9 vocab will be on 12/12 for both classes.

If you're not going to be here this Friday, make sure to take home your textbook and revisit chapter 7 pages re stem-changing verbs. Test on chapter 11 vocab is scheduled for 2/14/14 for both groups. Make sure your vocab is done. You can't study without it and this unit always creates problems on vocab tests even for students who always get A's. You've got to make the right connections so you don't confuse things that are similar. Remember how to recognize a verb or verb phrase, nouns, prep phrases, adverbs etc.
8/1/14: Test on chapter 10 vocab on 1/17/14 for both groups. Make sure you study a bit everyday.
5/12/13: 82 reminder to bring your packet and your dictionary to class this week. 81 reminder to bring scissors, glue and glitter. Next week 82 will bring glitter, glue and scissors and 81 will bring packets and dictionaries.

18/9/18: We played our first Quizlet Live games today. Lively!!! By way of reminder, you will no longer create your own Quizlet sets for vocabulary (unless you want to). I'll create them and I'll share them on Google Classroom too. You'll be given 20 points credit for using Quizlet and Google classroom to study the material.
You still have to write the entries in your copybook, though. You earn 20 points for that as well.
11/9/18: ¡Bienvenidos a todos! Welcome back, everyone. It's good to see all of you again. It's your last year at SPN and the year will fly by. There are many, many exciting events and adventures coming your way. Make the most of them.
I've had a chance to speak with all of you regarding the changes to the Spanish program. We'll meet twice a week rather than three times a week, and the grading scale has changed too. But we'll continue to forge ahead making sure to make the most of our classes and learning lots of Spanish as we do.
Homework and tests remain. Our first test will be on September 25 on the review material we worked on today and will continue the next three classes. New students in 82 are exempt from taking this test, however, the vocabulary for 6A should be in your copybook by 9/17.
27/4/18: Reminder that the test for 9a has been moved to Monday, 4/30 for both groups.
23/4/18: Test on chapter 9a vocab is this week o 4/26. You're out on 4/25 so be sure to have your vocab with you, or better yet, use Quizlet! An "A" on this test affords you some free time in May.
13/3/18: Quizzle on indirect object pronouns for both classes. Dates: 3/19 for both.
7/3/18: Chapter 8b vocab test is scheduled for 3/27.
12/2/12: Please review preterite endings for -ar, -er and -ir verbs as well as preterite forms for ser/ir, dar and hacer. They can be found in the back of the text if you don't have them in your cb. Quiz on these verbs 2/22 for both 81 and 82.
9/1/18: Change of plans on vocab test again. The first part of the test is rescheduled for this Thursday, but it will not have sentences, just the first column of vocab on page 396. The date for part 2 is the same: 1/18/18 and includes the second column including all verbs in the preterite.
18/12/17: Change of plans on vocab test. I'm going to split the chapter as there is so much vocab in this unit. First part of the test will be January 8, 2018 for both classes and it will cover the first column of vocabulary and the sentences from the workbook. The second part of the test will be January 18, 2018 for both classes and will cover the second column of vocab and the pretérite forms of er/ir verbs as well as the pretérito of the verb ir (to go).
5/12/17: Plan on a vocab test for both classes on chapter 8A on 12/18.
17/11/17: Date for vocab test on chapter 8a has not been set but it will be before Christmas break so you should be studying.
23/10/17: You should be using Quizlet at home. A lot!
16/10/17: Testo on c. 7b vocab is scheduled for 11/9 for both classes. If you did not finish Quizlet 7b or copybook 7b today in class, you must finish it for homework. Both are due this Thursday for both classes.
10/10/17: TEST for 82 IS MOVED FROM 10/12 to 10/11 DUE to 10 am MASS on Thursday!!!!!!! Also, reminder to bring your text and copybook with you to class on exam day. We start the next chapter (7b) immediately after the test.
2/10/17: You should be using Quizlet regularly to help you master vocab for chapter 7a. The test is next week on 10/12 for both groups. Reminder that there's a change in policy this year for middle school students. If you forget any books, workbooks, notebooks, etc, you will not be allowed to go back to your homeroom to get them. Having your text, workbook and copybook is essential to mastering the material for any unit. Please help one another remember to bring your class materials with you.
Some of the Rosary posters are up and look very nice. More will be put up on the main floor and the lower floor this week. Mr. Lathroum will help you to print more during your tech classes this week.
21/9/17: Testo on c. 7a vocab is scheduled for 10/12 for both groups. Next assessment is on the stem-changing verbs querer, preferir and pensar. Assessment will be some time next week.
12/9/17: Welcome back everyone. Please check this site once a week in case there are updates. We're starting the Rosary project later this week. Remember to be thinking about design to go with the written prayer. We'll be using Chromies and will spend at least one day in the Tech lab.
Also, you're going to need a pair of earbuds or headphones as listening activities are a big part of what we'll be doing this year when using Chromies or iPads.
Bring your old and new copybooks.

10/5/17: The final test for both classes has been moved to 5/18. All grades for 8th have to be in on 5/22 so I have to move the test forward. We've been working on this for awhile though. We'll be doing a thorough review tomorrow and the two classes next week.
25/4/17: Both classes have a vocab test on chapter 7b scheduled for 5/22.
8/3/17: Test on vocab for chapter 7a is scheduled for 4/6/17 for both classes. Vocab can be found on page 342.
15/2/17: Please make sure to send me corrections to the Google slide show for Spain. You can make the changes on any computer you're comfortable with (laptop, pc, Mac, iPad, Chromebook). If your group has already presented make sure you get me the corrected version by this weekend.
Test date change: 6b vocab test has been moved back a week. (Test will now be on 2/28 for 81 and 3/1 for 82). Keep studying!
2/2/17: Spain Field Trip presentations start Monday. We'll be using the iPads and Apple TV to present. Make sure you have corrected any spelling, punctuation and/or grammar errors in both languages. You should be double checking your Google slides this weekend to make sure everything is in good order. Be sure to know why you've included a slide so you can elaborate if needed to the audience (your classmates).
1/2/17: Chapter test on 6b is scheduled for 2/23 for both groups. Also be thinking about your final project. Talk with your partner regularly. You'll have some class time to work on it but it will require additional work outside of school: homework!
9/1/17: Chapter test on 6a is scheduled for 1/24 for 81 and 1/25 for 82.
19/12/16: Test on chapter 6a will be the week of January23-27, 2017. Make sure to look at your Quizlet set often, and practice translating random sentences from chapter 5b.
21/11/16: All revised translations should be to me before you leave for Thanksgiving holiday! Don't forget your Quizlet set for chapter 5b. Test date for 5b is 12/15/16 for both groups.
11/11/16: All 8th grade classes are required to set up a personal Quizlet set for chapter 5b. Please name the set "Realidades 1, c5b."
8/11/16: Reminder that vocab test on 5a is this Thursday! Bring your printed translation to class with you on Monday. We're going to swap our translations with a partner in order to edit.

29/9/16: Quiz on preterite verb forms Tuesday, 10/4 for 81 and Wednesday, 10/5 for 82. Make sure you know the meanings of the verbs of the handouts you got in class.
Books should be covered! If you have a new copybook, make sure the Padre Nuestro, the Ave María, the Credo, the Juramento and the Pater Noster are included. Copy them from your old copybook or get them from a friend.
4/18/16: Stem-changing verb test for 82 tomorrow, 4/19.
3/8/16: 82 narratives are due next Tuesday, 3/15. They must be typed (font size 12) and double-spaced. Remember to follow your notes when writing your narrative. Pay attention to use of estar and ser; make sure your adjectives and nouns agree in gender and number. Your subjects and verbs must agree in person and number as well, i.e, if you have a plural subject your verb should have a plural ending, not singular. You are talking about things so you'll use 3rd person endings only.
2/12/16: Blueprint and oral presentation are due on Wednesday, 2/17 for 81 and Thursday, 2/18 for 82.
2/2/16: Test for chapter 6b is on 2/23 for 82 and o 2/25 for 81.

4/30/15: Final test for grade 8 will be on 5/12, vocab for chapter 13. There may be a quiz after that.
4/15/15: 81 has a translation quiz this Friday. Vocabulary used will be from unit 12. 82 has a quiz on reflexive verbs and -ar/-er/-ir verb endings either this Friday or next Monday. Chapter vocab test is scheduled for 4/21 for 81 and 4/24 for 82. Vocab test will not include reflexive verbs as we have tested for these separately.
3/30/15: Quiz tomorrow on the five stem-changing reflexive verbs: acostarse--to go to bed; divertirse--to enjoy oneself; despertarse--to wake up; sentarse--to sit down; and dormirse--to go to sleep. The verb paradigm is on page 386 in your text if you need to review. You must conjugate and translate these five verbs for the quiz.
3/23/15: Quiz on reflexive verbs Friday, 3/27/15. You must know what they mean. Verbs are on p. 401 in your text:
despertarse--to wake up; levantarse--to get up; lavarse--to wash oneself; bañarse--to bathe oneself; afeitarse--to shave oneself; ponerse la ropa--to dress oneself; mirarse--to look at oneself; maquillarse--to put on makeup; cepillarse--to brush one's (hair, teeth etc); peinarse--to comb one's (hair): sentarse--to sit down; desayunarse--to have breakfast; acostarse--to go to bed; dormirse--to go to sleep; llamarse--to call oneself; divertirse--to enjoy oneself.

2/9/15: Quizzle on -go verbs (hacer--to do, to make; poner--to put/place; traer--to bring; salir--to leave/go out) tomorrow 2/10/15 for both classes. Remember the verbs are irregular in the yo form, the 1st person, singular, present-tense form. (hago, pongo, traigo, salgo). After that, they conjugate according to the pattern for their verb group (-er or -ir verb endings).
2/4/15: Vocab test for chapter 11 is scheduled for 3/3/15 for both classes. Chapter 11 vocabulary causes problems at times for students who normally do quite well on vocab tests. Make sure to study the words and phrases carefully. Isolate the ones that give you trouble and focus on those.
1/29/15: The c. 10 vocab test will be held on 2/2/15 for those of you who haven't taken it.
1/20/15: Chapter 10 vocab test will be this Friday, 1/23/15 for both classes.
1/7/15: Be sure to complete your chapter 10 vocab by this Friday if you haven't finished it yet.
1/5/15: Test for chapter 10 vocab is scheduled for 1/27/15 for both classes. The date may be moved to the week before if a school event is scheduled during your class time on 1/27/15.
12/9/14: Vocab for chapter 9 is moved to 12/16 for both classes.
11/18/14: Quiz this Friday or next Monday on the sentences on pp 274-275. If you did not finish translating them today in class, you must complete it for homework. Remember that most of the verbs are in the preterite tense (past tense).
11/5/14: Test on c. 9 vocab will be on 12/12 for both classes.

Test on chapter 11 vocab is scheduled for 2/14/14 for both groups. Make sure your vocab is done. You can't study without it and this unit always creates problems on vocab tests even for students who always get A's. You've got to make the right connections so you don't confuse things that are similar. Remember how to recognize a verb or verb phrase, nouns, prep phrases, adverbs etc.
8/1/14: Test on chapter 10 vocab on 1/17/14 for both groups. Make sure you study a bit everyday.
5/12/13: 82 reminder to bring your packet and your dictionary to class this week. 81 reminder to bring scissors, glue and glitter. Next week 82 will bring glitter, glue and scissors and 81 will bring packets and dictionaries.

Review of stem-changing verbs, chapter 7 (o-ue and e-ie) for a pop quizzle next week, and make sure you have your copybooks from last year with your chapter 7 vocab. If you threw it away or lost it, copy the vocab from a friend. The second half of the chapter test will be on 9/27 for both groups. (vocab can be found on page 231 in textbook).
