9/11/18: Welcome to all our students, returning and new. We've lots of new faces in 6th grade this year. We're so happy to have you with us.
A few beginning-of-the-year essentials: you must have a new copybook for Spanish, so be sure to get one if you haven't already.
Textbooks should not be covered with book socks as they break the spines on our books. It's fine to leave them uncovered. You can put clear film on the workbook if you'd like but it's not required.
Please remember to bring your text, workbook, copybook and pencils with you to every class. We don't use pens in Spanish (erasable pens are fine).
You'll have tests and homework in Spanish in middle school. That's new for most of you.
We'll use the Chrome books and iPads often. We'll set up Quizlet accounts for those of you who don't have a Quizlet account. It's a great study tool and lots of fun to use.
If you didn't finish your Puerto Rico/Cuba comparison please have it with you next class.
Please check this site once a week for updates.

9/8/17: Welcome to our new middle-school students! A few reminders: you need a new copybook for Spanish. You can't use your copybook from last year.
Do not cover your textbook with a book sock. We've had to replace a number of books because the spines are broken and pages start to fall out.
Do not take home your workbook. Ever. There's never a bit of homework to do in the workbook; we only use the workbook in the classroom. Don't take it home.
Your name and initials should appear on/in your workbook. If you lose your workbook, your name and initials will help to get it back to you. If you lose your workbook and can't find it, you have to buy another one.
Bring earbuds or headphones for use in Spanish class. We use Chromebooks and iPads several times a month and listening activities can only be used in a classroom if you have earphones.

August 27, 2012: Welcome to Middle School Spanish! We have a wonderful Spanish program in Middle School. You're going to learn lots and lots and be well prepared for high school. Please make sure you have a copybook dedicated to Spanish and bring it with you to every class. You also need pencils rather than pens. There's no need to purchase a Spanish-English dictionary for 6th grade, but if you want to, I recommend "The Bantam New College Spanish and English Dictionary." It's inexpensive and you can find used copies for pennies. You'll have to pay shipping costs though.
I'll see you on Wednesday or Thursday this week.

11/17/11 Below is a link for VideoEle.. The site is entirely in Spanish. It's filmed in different locations in Spain, so the pronunciation is Castilian. What does that mean? Well, the letters "z" and soft "c" have a "th" sound. There are other regional differences, but much like American English, it's not hard to figure out what is being said where. For example, "pop" and "soda" are the words used to mean "soft drink" in different regions of the US.
Videoele has lots of exercises related to each video. Be sure to try some of them. You'll be exposing yourself to Spanish at home as well as at school. You'll have fun, too.

Nivel A1 is level one Spanish. There are a dozen or more videos to view. Please experiment with the first 4-6. They're very easy to do. ¡Diviertense!
11/7/11 A number of students in 62 have not completed their vocab homework that was due 11/3. By way of reminder, a percentage of points is forfeited for every day an assignment is late (absence doesn't count against someone's grade). Please check your child's grade for this assignment; if they have a "10" posted that means they still haven't completed the assignment.
Homework for 11/7-9/11 (62)
Please view video at the following link for the next three days, and work on pronounciation. You can stop and start the video as often as you like. Remember that vowels in Spanish don't change their sound--well, very infrequently.
